Want a Cheaper Composite Alternative?

As times move on and materials become more and more advanced, composites are proving to out-perform white metal and are being used more frequently as a direct replacement.

White Metal Bearings do not work well when not properly lubricated – if they run dry they can creep and break up causing the soft white metal to transfer itself to the shaft causing eventual failure of the unit. Exalto can therefore supply customers with a Maritex liner as a direct replacement for the white metal part of the bearing – it has in-built lubricants meaning it can sustain dry running, a low coefficient of friction ( 0.1 or less compared to Peek 0.2-0.3 ) and reduces shaft wear. It just needs oil or water circulation for cooling purposes.

With supplying only the liner, which can be fixed to the existing housing with Loctite, Maritex is also a significantly cheaper and quicker option than replacing the white metal lining in a bearing – recent comparisons of cost show Maritex was available in less than a third of the time and at less than a third of the cost of a white metal bearing!
